Day 3 of Walking to Work – Snow

Posted in Journal with tags , , , on February 4, 2010 by razor

Last night I let the dogs out – and saw a blanket of snow in my backyard.  I went to bed wondering if I would be able to walk to work today or not.  When I awoke this morning – I have to admit that I stayed in bed 10 minutes longer than I should have – anticipating that I would drive to work.  But as soon as I got out of bed – I wanted to walk to work. :)   So I quickly dressed and hit the pavement.  “Gopher Alley” was absolutely gorgeous this morning, and I wish I would have grabbed my camera on the way out the door.  And I obviously wasn’t the only one walking this morning.  Gopher Alley had tracks – footprints of a person with a dog companion.  It made me smile to see that a dedicated dog owner had woken up early and had taken their doggy pal out on such a nice walk.  A few things that I have been noticing:

1) Last night I fell asleep easier than ever before.

2) I woke up quicker and easier this morning.

Diary of a Mistress (Novel) – Start of Editing

Posted in NaNoWriMo, Novel, Writing with tags , , , , , , on December 10, 2009 by razor

I have finally recovered from the end of November and the many nights of typing to finish my 50 K for NaNoWriMo. I haven’t written anything of substance since then. Tonight I printed it out. The 50,000 words sit neatly inside a 3 ring binder. I did not attempt to edit at all while I was writing – and since I finished, I have given a lot of thought about how to shape my story during the next few months of editing.

My heroine is strong, and many times I have feared that she is too strong for a reader to ever relate to her weaknesses – that there is no humanness in her story. But tonight I feel encouraged. Coincidentally – I rented the movie, An American Affair. It tells the story of an affair of President Kennedy while he was in office. It is told from the point of view of a young boy that lives across the street from Kennedy’s mistress. A far stretch for a story – but very well done.

So I set on this venture of editing and bringing life to my 50,000 words with a strong feeling of something I said months back – I write for an audience of one.

The Dirty Show LA – Nov. 13-14

Dirty Show LogoWhat an exciting month November is turning out to be!  Of course, this is National Novel Writing Month, but this month will see a ten year tradition branch out. The “Dirty Show” was created by Jerry Vile ten years ago and takes place in the Motor City every Valentine’s Day.  It is an “erotic art” exhibition that has drawn international attention.  This weekend, the “Dirty Show” is making its way to the City of Angels.

The Dirty Show is many things — but it is NOT, and NEVER has been, a pornographic hootenanny or a lame exercise in shock value. Its critics (and they are legion) forget that there is a legitimate difference between porn and the erotic. Porn, at best, is entertainment. Eroticism is enlightenment — an experience that not only reminds us that we are sentient beings, but also beings capable of seeing connections that go beyond mere carnality. (Robert del Valle, Real Detroit Weekly, February 3, 2009)

Among the many artists that will have artwork on display is Gina King, Clive Barker, and Alva Bernadine.

So in this busy month, I am going to leave my desktop keyboard – pack my acer, camera, and a dirty little outfit – and head to Los Angeles – consider it research for my novel!

Women and Clicking Shoes

high-heel-legs1I am desperately seeking an article (I believe it was from a blog – but it may not have been) that was about women and the way clicking high heels make them feel. I was sent the URL for this article at the end of March of 2009. I have not been able to find the article. I would appreciate any leads on this! Thanks so much!

Contraband Dog – Safely Home!

Petie

Petie

My beloved pet and companion is safely home tonight after a week and a half stay at the animal shelter in a city where his breed is restricted.  I had no idea that this town had a ban on Pit Bulls, and I left Petie there while I went on a business trip.  Hopefully a good story to tell in a few days when I have more time. Needless to say – the judge released him to me today. He is a few pounds lighter – but his eyes tell me he is incredibly happy to be home!

Two Extremely Difficult Weeks – Nice Thought for Bed

Posted in Journal, Music with tags , , , , , , on October 11, 2009 by razor

I have had two extremely difficult weeks, and I have missed writing in my little corner of cyberspace. I am still too busy to write anything substantial – just to say – I feel betrayed by two people that I let extremely close to me. After one feels the burn of being betrayed – it is difficult to let anyone in. “Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the Sun?”

But I would like to think that “I have a little piece of Heaven and I am waiting for the time that the Earth shall be as one!” Peace everyone! Good night.

Hey Jealousy!

“Do you think it will be alright, if I just crash here tonight?” That is the only line I know of the Gin Blossom’s song “Hey Jealousy.”

The people that do Karoke at bars are one of two kinds: 1) Those that went to try out at the last American Idol, and 2) those that have had at least one good shot of choice! And all the same kind of Karoke singers seem to gather at the same bars. For example, those Karoke singers that gather at Spectators Sports Bar in Pueblo Colorado are of the first genre. Visit Spectators on a Sunday night and you will see all the Puebloans that got turned down at the last American Idol try out.  All very serious… The same ones are always there – the diva, the heavy rocker singing Metallica or the like, the old man singing Sinatra or Elvis, the old woman singing Patsy Cline, and the African American woman that just brings the house down!

Then there are the Karoke singers that gather at Andy McCarthy’s Sports bar on Wednesday nights – all of the second kind. All have had at least one shot – and usually started out at the Green Light’s panic hour and have had more than one good shot! The same ones are always there – the guy and girl singing Summer Nights, the group of girls singing Like a Virgin, or the group of guys singing Bohemian Rhapsody.

So Pitchers in Aurora seems to attract the first type of Karoke singers – all serious. During my night there I heard the Diva sing Kryptonite, an old man sing What a Wonderful World, a hot tattooed heavy metal girl sing My Immortal, and I heard a bring-the-house-down rendition of Uninvited! Finally, after my Washington Apple – my boyfriend’s roommates talked me into going up there to sing Hey Jealousy by the Gin Blossoms. At worst I figured I could lip the  words, and let the girls belt it out – hoping that they were Karoke singers type 1 themselves. But no such luck – they had already had their prerequisite shots as well. We were the last to sing that night, and all eyes were on us – waiting for us to top every performance that had already happened that night. As I belted out the words into one of the two microphones, one measure behind, the old man that sang What a Wonderful World sat in front of the stage with a disappointed look. Our boyfriends cheered us on. And amidst the disappointed looks, and cheering from said boyfriends – I decided to belt it out even louder! “Hey Jealousy, Hey Jealousy!”

I think I will stick to Karoke nights at Andy’s! :)

Redeemable Day – Cirque du Soleil

Posted in Journal with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 7, 2009 by razor

I have never been labor day camping – as a child, nor as an adult.  Like any other holiday – the day was never marked.  In addition, the place where I currently work does not give us that day off.  So as I heard of others packing up to go on their last camping trip of the summer, I prepared my mind for a normal weekend.

But Mike was not planning another normal weekend – he bought tickets for Cirque du Soleil.  By the end of the week, I am so spent – that all I can think of is taking a nap.  After my nap – I was so annoyed at the thought of driving to Denver.  But I showered, packed as best as I could (not knowing where any of my clean clothes are… and my personal wardrobe girl is now in Kansas.)  As I started out on the road – Mike called me – and I went on and on about how I should be staying home to clean my house.

About an hour into the drive – I got more energy, and thought what a bitch I was being.  Mike had planned a spectacular weekend for us (just buying tickets to Cirque du Soleil was nice enough – but he had planned even more than that for us…) and all I did was worry about time I wasn’t going to be spending on housework.

I called him back and apologized, and told him that we could even go out that night and do whatever he wanted.  I opened myself up for anything – I had an incredible weekend – just a few highlights of our Friday evening – karoke, pool hopping, skinny dipping, and some wonderful intimate moments.

And for “a guy” – he planned an awesome Saturday.  We went to the Science Museum, and saw Wild Ocean at the IMAX theatre, and walked around the new Health Exhibit.  After spending the afternoon there – we got dressed for our evening out.  We ate at Bistro Vendome, the sister restaurant of Rioja.  It was absolutely perfect weather to eat out on the patio, and besides the small portions – both Mike and I thought the food was sensational.

And then the highlight of the weekend  – Cirque du Soleil!  All I am going to say right now is that the show was such a sensual experience that I wanted to cry when it was over.  I never wanted it to end.

We ended Saturday night watching the movie The Soloist – and there couldn’t be a better ending to a packed Saturday.  This weekend gave me enough wonderful things to write about for the next week.

When I told Michael “Thank You,” he replied “I love making you happy.”  It was the best Labor Day weekend I have ever had.  Holidays are being redeemed one by one.  Perhaps all it takes it letting go and cooperating with those that want to make me happy!

“Oh, we have danced together, you and I, many times. Through the eons and across all the ages have we danced. Across all time and in many places have we played together. You just don’t remember.”

“We have both been All Of It. We have been the Up and the Down of it, the Left and the Right of it. We have been the Here and the There of it, the Now and the Then of it. We have been the male and the female, the good and the bad; we have both been the victim and the villain of it.”

“Thus have we come together, you and I, many times before; each bringing to the other the exact and perfect opportunity to Express and to Experience Who We Really Are.” (Excerpt from The Little Soul and the Sun by Neale Donald Walsch, Conversations With God)
